What GetGrabVid is for
GetGrabVid is a small browser-based tool that turns a public video link into a file on your own device. It was built for the everyday cases where a copy genuinely makes sense: a creator who wants a backup of a clip they published, a teacher saving a video they have permission to use offline, someone archiving footage released under an open licence, or a traveller preparing a short offline library before a flight.
It is not a way around anyone's rights. Videos belong to the people who make them, and each platform sets its own rules about offline copies. Please read the disclaimer and the terms of service before you use the tool.
Links the tool can read
- TikTok: public video links, including the short vm.tiktok.com links from the share sheet. See the TikTok guide.
- Instagram: public Reels and feed videos. Private accounts are not supported. See the Instagram guide.
- YouTube: the tool can read public YouTube links, but YouTube's terms only allow downloads through its own features or with the owner's permission. Use it only for videos you own. Our guide to saving your own YouTube videos explains the official options first.
Choosing a format and a quality
Most clips are offered as an MP4 video file in one or more resolutions, plus an audio-only option when the source publishes a separate sound track. As a rule of thumb, 720p is a good balance for phones, 1080p suits laptops and televisions, and a lower quality helps when storage or mobile data is tight. The tool can only offer what the platform published: a clip uploaded at 720p will never be available at 1080p. Read what the quality labels mean and when audio-only is enough.
Start with the official export when it is your own video
If the video is yours, the most reliable copy is the one your account can export. TikTok, Instagram and YouTube all offer a way to download your own data or your own uploads, and those files keep the original quality. Use GetGrabVid when you only have a link, or when you need a quick copy of a single clip. Step-by-step instructions are in our guides for backing up your own short-form videos and the general how-to.
Responsible use and copyright
Save content you created, content published under a licence that allows reuse, or material you have explicit permission to keep. Do not re-upload other people's work as your own, and credit creators when you share something you are allowed to share. Our guide to downloading responsibly and the Creative Commons guide explain what is generally acceptable. Rights holders who want content removed from any page can use the contact page.
Privacy in one paragraph
There is no account and no profile. The link you paste is used to look up the video, and the file is passed through to your device without being kept on our servers. The site uses cookies for analytics and advertising as described in the privacy policy.
Frequently asked questions
How do I save a video with GetGrabVid?
Copy the link to the video from the app or the browser address bar, paste it into the box above, press the download button, and choose the quality or the audio-only option from the list that appears.
Which videos am I allowed to save?
Videos you created yourself, clips published under a licence that allows reuse (for example Creative Commons or public domain), and anything the rights holder has explicitly allowed you to keep. Everything else stays the property of its creator, and saving it may breach copyright law or the platform's terms.
Do I need to install an app or create an account?
No. GetGrabVid runs in your browser on phones and computers. There is nothing to install and no sign-up.
Can I save only the audio?
Yes. When the download options appear, choose the Audio option. You receive the sound track in the format the platform published, which is usually much smaller than the video.
Why does a link sometimes fail?
Private, deleted, age-restricted and region-locked videos cannot be fetched. The link must also point at the video itself rather than a profile or search page, and the video must open in a browser window where you are not signed in.
Does GetGrabVid store my videos?
No. We do not host or keep video files. The file is passed from the platform to your device and is not retained by us. See the privacy policy for the details.
Is there a better way to get a copy of my own video?
Often yes. TikTok, Instagram and YouTube each let you export your own content from your account settings. Those exports keep the original upload and are the safest backup. Our guides explain where to find them.
Is the service free?
Yes. The service is free to use. Running costs may be supported by advertising, and we do not sell your personal data.
