How to save only the audio
- Paste the video link above.
- Press Download and wait for the options to appear.
- Choose the Audio option to save the sound track instead of the picture.
When audio-only makes sense
- Interviews, lectures and podcasts you want on a music player.
- Your own voice-overs, practice recordings and rehearsal clips.
- Long talks you will listen to while commuting or travelling.
- Any file you only ever listen to. The saving in storage is large.
About the file format
Platforms publish the sound of a video as its own audio track, usually in a compact codec such as AAC. GetGrabVid hands you that track unchanged. It does not convert or re-encode it, which protects quality and keeps the file small. The file name may end in .mp3 for convenience, but the audio inside is whatever the platform used. Phones, browsers and most music players play it directly. If you need a guaranteed MP3 for an older device, convert the file with a program on your own computer.
What bitrate to expect
Spoken-word clips are often stored at a modest bitrate because speech stays clear even when compressed. Music is usually stored at a higher bitrate. Re-encoding a low-bitrate track into a higher number never restores lost detail, it only makes the file larger. Our guide to audio bitrates for speech and music explains the numbers, and MP4 or MP3 helps you decide which one you need.
Sound has copyright too
The audio in a video can be protected separately from the picture. A song used in a clip is normally licensed to the platform for streaming, not to you for saving, and certainly not for reuse in your own videos, advertisements or streams. Extract audio you recorded, audio under an open licence, or audio the rights holder has allowed you to keep. Learn what the common open licences allow in the Creative Commons guide.
Troubleshooting
- No Audio option? The source may not publish a separate sound track.
- Silent file? Try another player. Some older players do not support the codec.
- Link error? Check that it opens one public video, not a profile or playlist.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get the audio from a video?
Paste the video link above and press Download. When the options appear, choose the Audio option instead of a video resolution.
Is the file a real MP3?
GetGrabVid does not convert or re-encode audio. You receive the audio track as the platform published it. The file name may end in .mp3, but the codec inside can be AAC or another common format. Modern phones, computers and music players open these files without trouble.
Why is the audio option missing sometimes?
Only the tracks the platform publishes can be offered. If a source provides no separate audio stream, only video options appear.
What is the audio quality?
The audio is taken from the source without re-encoding, so it matches whatever the original upload used. Converting it to a higher bitrate afterwards would make the file bigger without adding detail.
How much smaller is an audio file?
Typically five to fifteen percent of the size of the same clip as video, which makes it ideal for talks, interviews and podcasts.
Can I use extracted audio in my own videos?
Only if you own the audio or hold a licence for it. Music and sound effects are usually protected, and extracting them to republish is not permitted.
Can I save music from a video?
Only when you own the music or have the rights holder's permission. Songs in videos are normally licensed to the platform, not to you, so saving them for any use beyond what the platform allows is not covered.
