Save a TikTok video in three steps
- Open the video in the TikTok app or on the web.
- Tap Share, then Copy link.
- Paste the link above, press Download, and choose a quality.
Who this page is for
Most people who need a TikTok file fall into one of a few groups: creators who edited a clip inside the app and no longer have the original project, small businesses that want a copy of their own promotional video, teachers and students working with material they have been given permission to use, and viewers who want to keep a clip a friend sent them and who has agreed to share it. In each case the video is either yours or the owner has said yes.
Check TikTok's own options first
TikTok gives creators control over downloads. When a creator allows downloads on a video, a Save video button appears in the Share menu for everyone. If you are the creator, you can change this in the privacy settings for your account or for each video, and you can ask TikTok for a full copy of your own data from the Download your data option in your account settings. Menu names change between app versions, so look for these labels if the exact path differs on your phone. These routes are the safest because they come straight from the platform.
What you can save with GetGrabVid
- The video in the resolutions TikTok published for that post.
- A smaller version when you are low on storage or on mobile data.
- Audio only, for talks and sounds you have the rights to reuse.
The file you receive is whichever rendition the platform serves. GetGrabVid does not edit, crop or retouch videos, and it cannot add a quality that was never uploaded.
Choosing a quality
Vertical TikTok videos are usually viewed on a phone, so 720p is often enough and keeps files small. Choose the highest option when you plan to edit the clip again. If a download keeps failing on a weak connection, try a lower quality. For a plain-language explanation of resolution labels, read what 360p, 720p and 1080p mean.
If the download does not start
- Check that the link opens one video, not a profile, a sound page or a search.
- Confirm the video is public by opening the link in a private browser window.
- Deleted videos and private accounts cannot be resolved.
- Wait fifteen seconds if you have tried several times in a row.
- Still stuck? Work through the download troubleshooting checklist.
Use other people's videos responsibly
A TikTok video is protected by copyright from the moment it is posted, and the music in it often has its own licence. Saving a clip for personal reference is very different from re-uploading it, using it in an advertisement or presenting it as your own. Only download content you created or have permission to keep, credit creators whenever you share something, and see our terms of service and disclaimer. If you are a rights holder and want content removed, use the contact page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I download a TikTok video?
Open the video in TikTok, tap Share and then Copy link, paste the link into the field above, and press Download. Pick the quality you want from the list that appears.
Which TikTok videos can I save?
Videos you posted yourself, clips whose creator has given you permission, and videos published under a licence that allows reuse. Other people's videos remain their property, so do not re-upload them as your own.
Is there an official way to save a TikTok video?
Yes. Creators can allow downloads on their videos, and viewers then see a Save video option in the Share menu. You can also request a copy of your own account data from the TikTok settings under Download your data.
Can I save the sound only?
Yes. When the download options appear, choose the Audio option. Music and sounds in TikTok clips are often licensed, so only reuse audio you have the rights to.
Does the file I receive have the TikTok logo on it?
The file is whichever rendition TikTok publishes for that post. GetGrabVid does not edit, crop or modify videos, so what you receive depends on what the platform serves.
Do I need a TikTok account?
No. The tool runs in your browser and never asks you to sign in to TikTok or to this site.
Why does my link not work?
Private accounts, deleted posts and region-restricted videos cannot be resolved. Make sure the link opens in a browser window where you are not logged in, and that it points at one video rather than a profile.
Is it free?
Yes, the downloader is free to use. Running costs may be supported by advertising.
